“I like it in the hallway”, “I like it on the table”, I like it on my desk”….

If you’re a regular to Facebook, and particularly if you’re a man, you’ll have noticed that there’s a new craze in Facebook statuses among female users.

Could this be déjà vu? This time last year, a similar event happened where women begun changing their status message to a colour.

I’ll let you into a little secret. Here is part of the Facebook message that I received last night which explains all…

“Remember the game last year about what color bra you were wearing at the moment? The purpose was to increase awareness of October Breast Cancer Awareness month. It was a tremendous success and we had men wondering for days what was with the colors and it made it to the news. This year’s game has to do with your handbag/purse, where we put our handbag the moment we get home for example “I like it on the couch”, “I like it on the kitchen counter”, “I like it on the dresser” well u get the idea…”

It will be interesting to see how this guerilla campaign compares to the success of the bra colour one last year. This year’s is a little more risqué – so far I’ve noticed a couple of my older Facebook friends adjust the wording slightly.

The primary objective of any campaign of this sort is always going to be ‘awareness raising’. Facebook is a great place for uniting women over a global female cause, and at the end of the day this is just a bit of fun. But thinking seriously for a minute, it’s going to be difficult for Breast Cancer Awareness to attribute any measurable results from this status message campaign…but maybe, for once, that’s not important…
